What Can We Say About Manila?
By Benedict A. Palacay
A walk around Manila in the afternoon would be a good way to meet old friends and not to mention strangers, but what does a common person on their way home or starting their day thinks about how manila is now? Below are views and short stories shared by people who rediscovered The City of Manila today.
The start of her day
Afternoon , on the way to Alabang, Call Center Agent Paula Ang, 24. Had seen manila as a city of rush but not of people who were catching the last minute of their free time but of people going home. According to her it s like “nabubuhay ang maynila, kapag alas-sinko”.” kung sila pauwi na, ako, nagsisimula palang” .”Ok na din ako sa ganun kasi pag ganitong oras di ko alam kung bakit laging may natitirang parking slot ditto sa likod ng city hall pero ang tao parang di nauubos, di mo lam kung ano ang ginagawa nila sa mall at sa tabi ng city hall” marami nang changes dito mas kapansin pansin na kahit maraming sasakyan at human traffic din a rin gaano irritating kasi mas nagging organized na dahil sa mga enforcer. I just don’t know kung ano ang itsura ng paligid
mamaya.
My brisk walking
There’s a lot of story there feeling ko lang mas substantial ang nakikita dun and not to mention ang mga food without
the smell of the sea” says Agatha Mari Palacay 20, Roxas blvd.
No Other Choice but the Bay
There was this time when me and my best friend went out simply because we don’t want go to work, we thought of the best possible excuse for us to be sent home we ended up rubbing our eyes so it would look like we have sore-eyes. We don’t have any plans at that time but what’s important is the need to get out and go somewhere, Our plan and alibi was good so we had our way we decided to go so far that nobody could trace us but we didn’t want to go as far as Baguio we didn’t had any choice since it was Friday and its like 2 in the morning we didn’t have much places to go so we ended up by the bay since everybody was toning down and the bay is the only thing that is left though it may sound “jologs” . It was a bit ironic since there were no more establishments there to have us entertained but it was still good since we had the chance to get to know each other more and that has been the start of an “us”. THE
DIFFERENCE
The
difference between the poor countries and the rich ones is NOT
the AGE of the country:
This
can be shown by countries like India
& Egypt
, that are more than 2000 years old, but are poor.
On
the other hand, Canada
, Australia
&
New
Zealand
, that 150 years ago were inexpressive, today are developed countries,
and are rich.
The
difference between poor & rich countries does NOT reside in the
AVAILABLE NATURAL RESOURCES.
Japan
has a limited territory, 80% mountainous, inadequate for agriculture
& cattle raising, but it is the secondworld
economy. The country is like animmense
floating factory, importing raw materials from the whole world and
exporting manufactured products.
Another
example is Switzerland,
which does not plant cocoa but has the best chocolate in the world. In
its little territory they raise animals and plant the soilduring
4 months per year. Not enough, they produce dairy products of the best
quality! It is a small country that transmits an image of security,
order & labor, which made it the world's strongest, safest place.
Executives
from rich countries who communicate with their counterparts in poor
countries show that there is no significant intellectual difference.
Race
or skin color are also not important: immigrants labeled lazy in their
countries of origin are the productive power in rich European
countries.
What
is the difference then? The difference is the attitude of the people,
framed along the years by the education & the culture & flawed
tradition.
On
analyzing the behavior of the people in rich & developed
countries, we find that the great majority follow the following
principles in their lives:
1.
Ethics, as a basic principle. 2.
Integrity. 3.
Responsibility. 4.
Respect to the laws & rules. 5.
Respect to the rights of other citizens. 6.
Work loving. 7.
Strive for savings & investment. 8.
Will of super action. 9.
Punctuality. 10.
and of course...Discipline
In
poor countries, only a minority follow these basic principles in their
daily life.
The
Philippines
is not poor because we lack natural resources or because nature was
cruel to us. In fact, we are supposedly rich in natural resources.
We
are poor because we lack the correct attitude. We lack the will to
comply with and teach these functional principles of rich &
developed societies.
If
you do not forward this message nothing will happen toyou.
Your pet will not die, you will not be fired, you will not have badluck
for seven years, and also, you will not get sick or go hungry.
But
those may happen because of your lack of discipline &laziness
,
your
love for intrigue and politics, yourindifference
to saving for the future, your stubborn attitude.
